MICROBLADING AND NANOBLADING: THE AFTERCARE
A question many ask is, how do I care for my microblading brows? Discover all you need to know about microblading aftercare in order for the perfectly healed microblading brows.
During your microblading appointment, your Browns & Co Cosmetic Artist will share with you a thorough and in-depth microblading aftercare routine. We highly recommend you strictly adhere to the aftercare shared with you to receive the best microblading results; as the aftercare is equally as important as the treatment itself. The aftercare allows for correct healing and colour retention.
Microblading aftercare is the full process by which you clean, protect from contamination and care for your skin in the brow treatment area.
Your aftercare usually lasts 10-14 days after your treatment:
HERE ARE THE FUNDAMENTAL STEPS OF MICROBLADING AFTERCARE:
- Do not rub your brows throughout your healing process.
- Use a gentle face wash to wash and clean your face and brows, being extra careful around the treated area. Pat dry with a clean tissue.
- Throughout the day, use the recommended Browns & Co products that your Cosmetic Artist will share with you – these have a unique ingredient list that ensures the pigment in the brows is not affected.
- It is important not to pick the flaking skin as you can pull some of the colour pigment off.
- Keep the brows completely dry.
- Use clean pillowcases and avoid sleeping on your face.
- Avoid makeup for at least 10 days following the treatment as the makeup and removal products can contact the healing area.
- Avoid sweating, saunas, swimming and long showers- you want to keep the brows as dry as possible,
- Avoid UV sun exposure and tanning.
The aftercare is very important, so we recommend planning your microblading appointment in advance to ensure you can adhere to the full process. You will also need to follow the same aftercare for your touch up (4-6 weeks later).
MICROBLADING AFTERCARE DAY BY DAY:
DAY 1
Immediately after your procedure, your brows are very sensitive and may appear swollen. Your brows will appear darker and more defined; this will last up to 2 weeks. They may look wet during this time. A few hours after your treatment, blot the lymph off the brows with a cotton pad and a drop of sterile water. Repeat this process 2-3 times.
DAY 2 – 4
Gently wash your brows with some sterile water or a gentle wash as recommended by your microblading artist. Repeat this process 2-4 times a day to avoid the build up of lymph in the treated area.
Ensure your hands are clean and you are gentle.
After cleaning your brows, apply a small amount of your brow product, if advised.
DAY 5 – 10
Usually around day 4 or 5, you will experience flaking and your brows may look dry. DO NOT PICK your brows! Let any dryness fall off naturally. If flakes are picked off prematurely, missing hair strokes will result and cause patchy brows which can lead to scarring.
Continue with the aftercare routine – wash gently, dry and moisturise if advised.
DAY 10 – 14
You may experience itchiness in the brows after 10 days and up to 2 months, due to the healing process of the dermal layer.
If your brows have stopped peeling, you can stop applying the brow product.
On the 14th day, you can continue your everyday routine – you can wash your face as usual and even apply makeup if you have to.
Your brows will take up to 4 weeks to fully heal. When the flaking comes off, the colour may seem faint. This is because a fresh layer of skin has healed over the brows. Give your brows a few weeks and the colour will come back as the healing layers of skin shed.
MICROBLADING AFTERCARE FOR OILY SKIN
Those with oily skin require a slightly different aftercare. This is because sebum (natural oils of the skin) can push the pigment out. That doesn’t mean people with oily skin cannot have microbladed eyebrows, it just means their aftercare looks a little different. We recommend dry healing (keeping the brows completely dry) for clients with oily skin and not applying the skincare moisturising product. Microbladed eyebrows for this skin type will include regular blotting of the brows throughout the day, as recommended by your Browns & Co Cosmetic Artist.
HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY MICROBLADING EYEBROWS ONCE THEY HAVE HEALED?
Your microblading brows longevity depends on your lifestyle and daily habits.
If you sweat a lot, swim or are exposed to frequent sun rays, your microblading may not last as long as 18 months.
We recommend a high quality sunscreen lotion to help your microblading last longer and avoid products that contain retinol as this can speed up the fading process.
If you wish to prolong your brows, we recommend scheduling regular touch ups. Your skin type and lifestyle will determine the length of time between touch-ups.
