FAQ

What is Lip Blushing?

Lip Blushing is a semi permanent makeup that enhances and defines your lip shape by adding a colour tint using a cosmetic makeup machine. The result is similar to a lip filler – your lips will look fuller and defined with the colour pigment enhancement; however it won’t change the shape or feeling of your lips like a lip filler will. A lip blush treatment will leave you with a soft, natural shaded-in colour that can enhance your lip symmetry, cover uneven pigmentation or scars and give you the illusion of bigger, fuller lips.

What are the benefits of lip blushing?

A lip blush is a great treatment to receive a long-lasting enhanced lip colour.
Other benefits include:
– Restoring pigment, creating a subtle hint of colour, bringing warmth back to the lips
– Increased pigmentation for pale and ageing lips
– Adds definition and illusion of volume for a healthy, youthful look
– Cool or dark lip correction – we can offer dark lip correction for clients with hyperpigmentation to create a completely neutral and natural lip
– Correct and even out any asymmetry in the lips
– The ability to customise your lip shade
– Fuller looking lips without the need for injectables or surgery
– Enhanced lip symmetry
– Colour correction for scars and uneven pigmentation

How long is the appointment?

The initial lip blush appointment takes around 1 hour – 1.5 hours with a full in-depth consultation.

Is the follow up/retouch appointment included?

Yes, the follow up retouch appointment is included in your treatment. We do recommend the retouch appointment to ensure maximum results. However, some clients may be very happy with the first session and may not need the retouch. This is dependent upon each client’s personal preference, lifestyle and individual skin’s healing response to the pigment.

Can I get lip blush if I have filler in my lips?

Lip blush can work well on clients with fillers and can further enhance the area with beautiful results.
We would recommend getting filler first if you do wish to have a lip filler – this is because the filler can change the shape of the lips and after the lip border. As long as you wait the recommended amount of time between lip fillers and lip blush (usually 4-6 weeks depending on the aesthetician and artist), it is perfectly safe to proceed with the treatment.
Lip blush can then help with restoring the lost pigment and warming up the tone of the lips, enhancing the lip filler to create beautiful results.

How long does it take to heal?

It takes around 1 week to heal superficially, so after one week you can start to apply your lip make up and go about your daily routines.

It takes a full 28 days for the skin layers of the lips to fully heal and see the final results. It is only after this 28 day healing period you can have the retouch appointment.

How long does lip blush last?

This varies hugely from person to person and depends on skin type, lifestyle and how well you take care of your lips.
Your lip blush can last anywhere between 6 months to 2 years. For the best results, you must follow the aftercare instructions we provide.

We always recommend coming to Browns & Co for a complimentary consultation with our expert Cosmetic Artists to determine your desired lip results.

How often is the touch up?

A retouch appointment is recommended between 4-6 weeks, then your lips can last up to 2-3 years after you have received your touch up. Skin type and lifestyle can affect the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo- we cannot guarantee specific results as everyone is different.

Does this procedure trigger cold sores/fever blisters?

Cold sores are a risk of lip blush tattoo, but only if you have had them in the past. If you carry the common Herpes Simplex virus, we recommend taking antiviral prescription medication as a preventative at least 5 days before undergoing a permanent lip blush treatment. Taking the medication before the treatment, will assist in avoiding a cold sore outbreak during the healing process.

Does lip blushing hurt?

Every client has a different pain threshold and therefore a different definition of pain, but due to the topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) that is applied, it is unlikely you will feel any pain.  Your Browns & Co Cosmetic Artist will not start the lip blush treatment until the lip area feels numb.

A secondary anaesthetic is used after the first pass which offers a deeper numbness.

You may experience slight discomfort during the treatment- for most, the area of the Cupid’s arch and the corners of the lip are the most uncomfortable, but not painful.

If you do experience any major pain during your treatment, it is important to let our expert Artists know so they can adjust as necessary.
